A healthy, chocolate smoothie packed with protein and a whole lot of goodness!
Let me state for the record that chocolate is my obsession and I’m not ashamed to admit it! The way I see it, there are many worse vices I could have in life, so I’m totally in acceptance of this. There are endless possibilities to use, mix and bake with chocolate so I am never bored with it. It always lights up my taste buds and makes me very happy!
Unfortunately, it isn’t always the healthy choice. As I started to focus more on a whole food way of eating, it became inevitable that I would have to cut back on my sugar intake and find healthy alternatives for my love of chocolate.
After trying a bunch of recipes and experimenting with my own, I came up with a really delicious healthy smoothie that actually tastes like chocolate! Now before you chocolate lovers get too excited, I’m going to be real with you and clarify that this does not taste like a Godiva milkshake (quite frankly, nothing could ever compare). However, it does satisfy my chocolate craving without the guilt afterwards. Since it’s packed with so much protein I like to make one after a high intensity yoga practice or run.
Here’s what you need:
1 Cup vanilla greek yogurt ( I like Oikos Triple Zero)
½ Cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk (I like Caifia Farms)
1 Frozen banana
3 Tbsp spoons natural peanut butter (I like Teddy’s All Natural Smooth)
4 Tbsp spoons Cacao Powder
1 Tbsp flaxseed (or sub any preferred nutritional powder))
1 Tbsp pure honey
1 Tsp espresso powder (optional to enhance chocolate flavor, but tasty enough without!)
Combine everything in your blender and mix! I like my smoothies thick so I don’t mix for too long, just enough that everything is blended and there are no banana chunks. I have a ninja that I highly recommend! Run, don’t walk and get one today if you don’t have one. It is a game changer!
Pour into your favorite pretty glass, drop in a straw and enjoy!
